Know the Three Main Types of Silk You May Have Been Using
Silk was and still is considered one of the most luxurious types of fabric in the world. It’s made out of silk fibers from silkworms, making them hard to weave and create. Royalties were the only ones who could afford this type of fabric. Now, everyone can purchase these everywhere because there are machines made to manufacture silk. And it has become a popular fabric that’s always connected to comforts, such as bed sheets, pillowcases, and sleepwear. Some sleepwear examples are mens silk robe, silk pajamas, nightgowns, and so much more.
Silk comes in many different types, but there are three main silk types you have probably heard of before. If you want to get to know what these three different types of silk are, make sure to keep on reading, so you can make an informed decision once you’re ready to shop for some of these magnificent materials.
Charmeuse Silk
One of the most popular and widely used types of silk is Charmeuse silk, which is woven with a satin weave. It’s a soft, buttery, and light silk that has a lovely drape to it. It’s often confused with satin because it has a lustrous shine, which is similar to satin fabrics. However, it has a rough side, which is why it’s the perfect fabric for bed sheets and pillowcases, where there’s no need to show both sides. The only difference between satin and Charmeuse is that the latter is shinier. So it’s perfect for making dresses, scarves, and lingerie.
Mulberry Silk
Another popular type of silk is Mulberry silk, which probably contributes to about 90% of the world’s silk production. Unfortunately, it’s also regarded as the most expensive because these are strictly made out of silkworms that only eat Mulberry leaves. But the quality of Mulberry silk is undeniable, and it’s soft and lightweight. It’s definitely worth the money and a lovely addition to your closet. Aside from Charmeuse, Mulberry silk is also perfect for dresses, sleepwear, bed sheets, and so much more. You can basically use it for anything that you want.
Chiffon Silk
Chiffon is a type of silk that’s elegant and sheer. It has a slightly rough gauze-like texture that’s a bit stretchy. But it has a beautiful drape to it too. It’s made of fine and twisted fibers, which makes it very lightweight. You can use it for layering and adding volume to a dress. Most of the time, Chiffon silk is used during special occasions, such as weddings. In wedding dresses, it can easily create a stunning and flowy appearance. You can also use this for scarves, blouses, and other apparel. Interestingly, it doesn’t look like silk. But you might have seen and used this without knowing it’s silk.
